The Champagne region was a major artistic centre, particularly for the art of stained glass from the 12th to 13th centuries. The talk will focus on a selection of stained glass windows from the cathedrals of Châlons-en-Champagne, Troyes and Reims, providing precious evidence of glazed decoration that has sometimes been severely disrupted over time. By placing them in perspective with other arts and other sites, we will show the characteristics of these works and their importance in terms of art history. Their links with the architectural setting will also be discussed.
