As part of its 2025 cultural programme dedicated to HUMANITY, take a tour of the Hôtel-Dieu with the accompanying booklet entitled "L'Hôtel-Dieu de 1789 à 1799: la Révolution, des révolutions".

In January 1794, during the Terror, the Hôtel-Dieu was renamed the "Hospice d'Humanité", a designation then applied to all hôtels-Dieu. Hospital values inherited from the Middle Ages were overturned by societal changes that questioned the place of the individual, and scientific developments that helped to build our modern hospitals, particularly in approaches to patient relations and in the training conditions for nursing staff. These were the beginnings of a humanisation of the hospital, where all citizens are welcomed without any notion of income. Find out how the Hôtel-Dieu changed over the course of a decade, before merging with the Hospice de la Charité orphanage in 1796 to form a joint institution, the Hospices Civils de Beaune.
