Backed by the vast wild forest of Planoise (a true "green lung" of the southern foothills of the Morvan massif, to be explored on foot or by mountain bike) within a bucolic preserved setting of gentle countryside, labeled "City of Art & History", Autun has an absolutely unique heritage: exceptional Gallo-Roman remains (Temple, doors, theater, Pyramid of Couhard, etc.), medieval (12th century St-Lazare cathedral, ancient ramparts, Ursulines tower, chapel Romanesque from the 11th century, high neighborhoods with half-timbered houses...) & classics (covered halls from the 19th century, Italian theater from 1884, military high school from the 17th century...).
