Le parcours "no kill"

Sporting activities, Fishing, Unaccompanied activity in La Grande-Verrière
  • This easily accessible and well laid out course is ideal for fly fishing enthusiasts.

  • To mark the opening of trout fishing, the first no-kill fly fishing course in the Saône-et-Loire department was inaugurated on Le Méchet, at La Grande-Verrière.

The project was initiated and carried out by the Autun association for fishing and protection of the aquatic environment, better known as the Union Gaule Autunoise & Pêcheurs Morvandiaux.

Only fly-fishing is permitted on this specific course, and all anglers must release the trout they catch into their natural environment.

To mark the opening of trout fishing, the first no-kill fly fishing course in the Saône-et-Loire department was inaugurated on Le Méchet, at La Grande-Verrière.

This course has been designed to offer local and visiting anglers a unique site, specially dedicated to fly fishing in a natural environment, on a first category river in the Morvan. To date, there is no other similar course in the region. Although some reservoirs stocked with salmonids also allow fly-fishermen to practise their activity, the Méchet no-kill course remains the only one to offer a stretch of river exclusively dedicated to fly-fishing with wild fish.

This project is part of a drive to modernise and promote trout fishing in the Morvan, offering a fishing experience that respects the environment and biodiversity.

The Méchet flows at the foot of the ancient Celtic city of Bibracte through a wild and magnificent wooded setting, joining the Arroux shortly before Laizy. On average 5 to 8 metres wide and shallow, the Méchet alternates between riffles, holes and hollow banks.
