This authentic course offers ideal conditions for toc fishing, whether using worms, moths or minnows in a natural environment conducive to the practice of this traditional fishery.
The Canche joins the Chaloire shortly after La Celle-en-Morvan, forming the Celle, which flows into the Arroux towards Monthelon. The Canche is 2 to 3 metres wide and is cluttered with large granite boulders. It flows through beautiful wooded gorges that are difficult to access and relatively dangerous.
Although dammed by a hydroelectric power station, it is home to large numbers of small wild trout, which can be caught on a toc or moth. More accessible and slightly wider, the Chaloire flows through woods and meadows. The average trout size is higher here (23 to 30 cm).
Approximately 11 km long and 5 to 6 m wide, the Celle is the most productive river in the southern Morvan. Trout over a pound in size are not uncommon, but very wary.
Toc, ultralight, and even dry fly (dark tints) from mid-May are productive, but the leading technique is to let a live minnow drift between the roots, under the hollow banks.
