The Rolin Museum in Autun closed its doors to the public in October 2022. But what happens to the team and the works?

The Heritage Talks.
Over the last few years, there's one subject that has filled our newspapers, whether they're on television, radio or in print. Alongside politics, celebrities and the news, there's been a steady stream of talk about heritage. There are, of course, major events of varying degrees of tragedy, such as the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris or the work needed to modernise the Louvre, but there are also thousands of small projects all over France, Europe and the rest of the world...The Heritage Talks.
Over the last few years, there's one subject that has filled our newspapers, whether they're on television, radio or in print. Alongside politics, celebrities and the news, there's been a steady stream of talk about heritage. There are, of course, major events of varying degrees of tragedy, such as the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris or the work needed to modernise the Louvre, but there are also thousands of small projects all over France, Europe and the rest of the world aimed at saving a village church, a castle or a work of art. What for a long time was the preserve of curators and experts, often in a very Parisian environment, is now of interest to the vast majority of French people, who are passionate about an exhibition, an acquisition or a restoration. The success of new specialist magazines and television programmes is proof of this.
Why not talk about all this at the Moulin de Chazeu? The aim of the "Heritage Talks" is to raise heritage issues, in connection with history and the arts, in the context of a discussion with professionals from the sector or experts on certain subjects. More than just a conference, these will be participatory sessions, real 'chats' by the fireside (even if the fire will be out for the summer sessions!). They will be led by Thomas Ménard, who is responsible for content and development on the Friends of European Heritage cultural platform.
"Museum closed, museum not idle!
with Agathe Mathiaut-Legros, Director of Museums and Heritage for the City of Autun.
The Rolin Museum in Autun closed its doors to the public in October 2022. We will have to wait until 2028 to discover a new museum: the "Panoptique d'Autun - musée Rolin". But what happens to the team and the works of art during all these years of closure and renovation? You might think that everything was going slowly, that nothing much was happening. And yet, between off-site exhibitions and digital promotion, restoring works and making an inventory of the collections, educational initiatives and preparing the new visitor trail, the museum team has not been idle! That's the problem with a museum that's closed, yet very much alive.
