The Temple of a Thousand Buddhas, officially recognised in 1995 as a religious congregation, was founded in 1974 by a Tibetan lama. It consists of a series of buildings and monuments in the Himalayan style, set in pretty grounds and decorated with multi-coloured banners. The temple, built on three levels, contains huge statues of Buddha, paintings on cloth, frescos and richly-coloured friezes. With its pyramid-shaped "tcheuten" and its fountain, this site gives the visitor an introduction to Oriental symbolism. Rituals with music and chanting take place every morning and evening, except on Wednesdays. The Marpa building houses a shop (sale of specialised books, Buddhist art, Himalayan handicrafts, postcards). Accommodations and cafeteria are available on site.
Teaching and meditation held on weekends, with a more in-depth training course partially open to all-comers (annual programme). Guided tours for groups upon reservation only.
