The treasury is housed in four rooms built in 1520 at the request of Jacques Hurault, bishop and ambassador to Louis XII: the main sacristy, the archive and treasury rooms, and upstairs, the chapter house, which housed the canons' library. These rooms, adjoining the west arm of the transept, are a flamboyant Gothic addition to the Romanesque cathedral.
The chapter house features Romanesque capitals by Gislebertus:
A spiral staircase leads up to the chapter house, where twenty-three 12th-century capitals are on display. These masterpieces of Romanesque art, attributed to Gislebertus, depict biblical scenes, fantastic animals and sumptuous plant decorations. They come from the cathedral's transept and choir and were removed and replaced by copies in 1863, when the building was being consolidated. They can now be seen up close, in an exceptional architectural setting.
