Spend a weekend in the region of wine and gastronomy. You are sure to be in the right place to be charmed by the authenticity of the vineyards and countryside of Burgundy. From Beaune, the wine capital, you will discover the magnificent UNESCO listed vineyards before reaching Chalon Sur Saône, the cradle of photography, via the Canal du Centre. The next day you will continue your journey through the Saône plain with its agricultural crops and century-old forests to Beaune, only by bicycle.

    Programme

DAY 1 Arrival Beaune - Chalon sur Saône - vineyards of the Côte de Beaune ~43km
Arrival in Beaune in the morning, our shop is close to the town centre, next to the Bouzaise park. Meet our agency representative for a presentation of your short stay, he will give you your road book, maps and tourist brochures as well as your bicycles. You can then take time to stroll through the medieval streets of Beaune, its ramparts, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame with its 15th century tapestries, and have a drink in one of the many cafés.
Or you can head straight for the vineyards. The "voie des vignes", a signposted route for bikes through the vineyards, takes you through the famous wine villages of Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. In these villages you will find many wine estates where you can taste the great wines of Burgundy. Before reaching Chalon sur Saône, you will follow the canal du centre on a towpath converted into a cycle path. If you have enjoyed the hospitality of the wineries too much you can catch a train in Chagny to Chalon sur Saône.

DAY 2 Chalon sur Saône - Beaune ~45km
The route today is without major difficulties, you stay on the plain. You leave Chalon sur Saône on a cycle route along the Saône before reaching Gergy. The rest of this stage is also signposted and follows the Tacot route, a former railway line that has been converted into a cycle path between forests and agricultural areas. You will reach Beaune and our shop by safe and gentle routes and will be able to stroll through Beaune again.

    Practicalities
You can park your car for free in Beaune, near the departure point.

On Saturdays, if you arrive early enough in Beaune, you can drop by the Place de la Halle market, and make up your own picnic with regional products for the day. It would be the same the next day. In Chalon the market is on Sundays.

If you buy souvenirs (wines) on the way, we can collect them for you, and keep them until you leave - that way you pedal light!
